Last year we agreed to annually target a group that would benefit from our ‘community giving’ efforts. We chose the LGBTQ youth assistance organization called One-n-Ten based in Metro Phoenix serving all of Maricopa County. We donated some club & personal resources by joining forces with Sun City’s, Sun City West’s and Corte Bella’s LGBT Clubs to successfully co-sponsor a Comedy Night Fundraiser during the holiday season.
This season, our group selected the Nadaburg Elementary School in Wittmann as our recipient. We learned it is one of the poorest schools in the county, unable to keeps doors open more than 4 days a week due to lack of funds, teaching 50 children who are homeless among their student population of 385, of which, 85% are at or below the poverty level. Their program is called “Angel Tree”; $50 of gifts per child so that there is some added joy this holiday season for these children ranging in age from 5 – 13 years old. We were able to collect $900 this year, thus able to purchase wish-list gifts for 18 kids! A Wrapping Party is organized for December 8 in time to get these gifts to the school in plenty of time for holiday distribution.
