While the atmosphere in the stands was celebratory, the game itself was a tough outing for the home team. The Washington Nationals defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 14-1. Diamondbacks starting pitcher Merrill Kelly struggled early on, giving up multiple hard hits, while the Nationals’ defensive alignment completely stifled the D-backs’ batting order throughout the evening.
